About the New Jersey CDL rollover, skid and jackknife test
Most combination rollovers start with a high load and a fast ramp. The New Jersey CDL rollover skid and jackknife test works the physics behind that: keeping cargo low, keeping it centered, and taking curves and highway exits well under the posted speed rather than at it.
The jackknife half of the drill separates the two kinds. A tractor jackknife comes from locked drive wheels losing traction; a trailer jackknife comes from locked trailer wheels swinging out behind you. In both cases the fix starts with releasing the brakes to let the wheels roll and steer again, which is the opposite of instinct.
Skid recovery, brake balance, and empty trailer bounce round out the set. These are original topical questions, not exam content. Because the combination vehicles question count is set by New Jersey and not by federal rule, confirm it in your New Jersey CDL Manual before your 2026 appointment with the New Jersey MVC.
Every question traces back to the New Jersey CDL Manual - skim the right-of-way and signs chapters before your retake.
