Georgia DMV Test FAQ

In most states you can get a CDL at 18 for driving within your state (intrastate). You must be 21 to drive across state lines, carry passengers, or haul hazardous materials. Check your state's CDL manual for exact rules.

Yes. You first pass the knowledge tests to get a Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP), practice with a CDL holder in the vehicle, and in most states must hold the CLP at least 14 days before taking the skills test.

Everyone takes General Knowledge. Class A adds Combination Vehicles, and Air Brakes if your vehicle has them. Class B adds Air Brakes. Endorsements (HazMat, Tanker, Passenger, School Bus, Doubles/Triples) each add their own test - see the path picker at the top of this page.

Typically 50 questions, and most states require 80% to pass. Endorsement tests are shorter (usually 20-30 questions, same 80% bar). Your state's CDL manual lists the exact numbers.

Yes - a TSA security threat assessment (fingerprints and background check), and the endorsement must be renewed periodically. Start the TSA step early; it can take several weeks.

No. We are exam prep only: our practice tests get you ready for the state knowledge tests. Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) for first-time Class A/B applicants must be completed with an FMCSA-registered training provider.

Georgia CDL Practice Test Guide: General Knowledge & Endorsements

Freight moves through Georgia around the clock, and a commercial license is your way into it. The practice tests above mirror the real CDL general knowledge exam, so you can find your weak spots before you ever sit down with Georgia DDS (Department of Driver Services).

Here is what you are working toward. The written test runs 50 questions, and you need 80 percent, which is 40 correct out of 50, to pass. That standard comes from the federal FMCSA and holds in every state, so the number never changes when you cross a state line. This same test is the written exam for your Commercial Learner’s Permit, which means a Georgia CDL permit practice test and this written test cover the same ground. Going for Class A, B, or C? You all take the identical written exam; your class is set by the skills test and the vehicle you bring.

Treat each sample CDL exam above as a diagnostic. It presses on the topics that matter on the road: pre-trip vehicle inspection, basic vehicle control, shifting gears, managing space and speed, reading hazards early, and reacting when brakes fade or a trailer starts to skid. The Georgia Commercial Driver’s Manual explains all of it, and the repetition here is what makes the reading stick.

Where you drive decides what you study after the basics. With the Port of Savannah among the busiest container ports in the country and Atlanta anchoring a huge distribution and logistics network, much of the work here means hauling trailers along the I-75, I-85, and I-20 corridors, so the Combination Vehicles and Air Brakes knowledge tests pull real weight. Move fuel or placarded loads and you will add the Tanker and HazMat endorsements. Each endorsement is its own separate test, and the same goes for Doubles/Triples, Passenger, and School Bus.

Run the free Georgia CDL practice test above until 40 out of 50 feels easy, then schedule your CDL skills test with the Georgia DDS and go earn it.
