About the Ohio motorcycle controls & equipment test
A rider who fumbles the controls is a rider in trouble, so this quiz makes sure your hands and feet know their jobs. Ohio's Class M knowledge exam expects you to identify the throttle, clutch, front and rear brakes, gear shifter, and mirrors, plus the warning lights and switches you rely on daily. Understanding how the throttle and clutch work together underpins smooth starts and control at low speed.
Each of the 40 exam questions assumes this baseline fluency, and 75% correct is still the target. This set reinforces which hand operates the front brake, which foot works the rear brake, and how mirror position affects what you can see behind you.
The Ohio BMV builds these items directly from the Ohio Motorcycle Operator Manual, so match every control to its function in that text. Master this category before the motorcycle temps test and the more advanced riding topics, from braking to cornering, will make far more sense when you reach them.
Every question traces back to the Ohio Motorcycle Manual - skim the right-of-way and signs chapters before your retake.
