About the Kentucky motorcycle lane positioning test
Where you ride within a lane shapes your safety margin. This lane positioning set teaches the three lane positions and when each serves you best, a core competency for the 2026 Kentucky DMV Class M knowledge test.
You will work through lane position 1, 2, and 3, using position to be seen, avoid hazards, and manage space around other vehicles. The set covers blocking a lane to discourage a car from sharing it and maintaining a safe following distance, often described as a minimum two-second gap that grows in poor conditions.
All of it draws on the Kentucky Motorcycle Operator Manual, the authority behind the KYTC Driver Licensing exam of 25 questions at 80% to pass. Thinking clearly about lane placement and following distance earns reliable points on the written test and, more importantly, keeps a cushion of space between you and trouble on Kentucky roads.
Every question traces back to the Kentucky Motorcycle Manual - skim the right-of-way and signs chapters before your retake.
