About the New Jersey CDL road signs test
Shape and color carry meaning long before you are close enough to read the words, and this New Jersey CDL road signs test drills that vocabulary. An octagon always means stop. An inverted triangle always means yield. A pennant on the left shoulder marks a no-passing zone. Diamonds warn, rectangles regulate or guide, and the round yellow sign with a black X warns of a railroad crossing ahead - a sign no commercial driver can afford to misread.
Color does the same work: red for prohibition, yellow for general warning, orange for work zones, green for guidance and distance, blue for motorist services, brown for recreation areas, and fluorescent yellow-green for pedestrian and school warnings.
Sign knowledge supports the whole New Jersey CDL general knowledge exam, which asks 50 questions and passes at 80 percent. Work through this 2026 CDL road signs practice test until shape and color alone tell you what is coming.
Every question traces back to the New Jersey CDL Manual - skim the right-of-way and signs chapters before your retake.
