About the New York Class A CDL exam simulator
The New York Class A CDL practice test above is your launchpad for the biggest rigs on the road in 2026, and it doubles as a class A drivers license practice test and class A permit practice test. A Class A CDL covers a combination vehicle rated over 26,001 pounds towing a trailer over 10,000 pounds, the tractor-trailers that run the New York Thruway between upstate plants, farms, and warehouses.
Knowing the types of CDL matters. What are the three types of CDL license? Class A is that heavy combination; Class B is a single vehicle over 26,001 pounds, such as a straight truck or large bus; and Class C is a smaller vehicle used to haul placarded hazmat or carry 16 or more passengers. These CDL classifications decide which skills test you take, but every applicant answers the same written exam first.
That shared general knowledge test asks 50 questions and requires 80 percent, or 40 correct, to pass. Study these different types of CDL alongside the New York State Commercial Driver's Manual and aim straight for your Class A.
Every question traces back to the New York CDL Manual - skim the right-of-way and signs chapters before your retake.
