About the Pennsylvania motorcycle turning & cornering test

Corners are where motorcycles feel most alive and most demanding, so this test focuses on turning and cornering technique. It covers countersteering - pressing forward on the handgrip in the direction you want to lean - which is how bikes actually initiate turns at road speed, a concept that surprises many new Pennsylvania riders.

You will also review the slow, look, press, roll sequence and how choosing a good cornering line keeps you smooth and predictable. PennDOT includes these skills on the Class M exam because riders who understand where to look and how to manage speed through a bend stay in control when the road turns unexpectedly in 2026.

Remember the standard you are working toward: the Pennsylvania motorcycle knowledge test has 18 questions and a passing mark of 83%. The cornering section of the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Operator Manual explains each phase of a turn in detail, so reread it whenever a question about lean or line selection gives you trouble.

Every question traces back to the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Manual - skim the right-of-way and signs chapters before your retake.
