About the Utah CDL inspecting the coupling test
This Utah CDL combination practice test zeroes in on inspecting the coupling itself, the step most new drivers rush and most examiners test hardest. A coupling that looks connected is not the same as a coupling that has been verified connected.
You will be quizzed on the visual and physical checks for fifth wheel locking jaws, the gap between the upper and lower fifth wheel, air line and electrical connections, and how to confirm the trailer is actually secured before you pull forward into traffic. Missing any one of these checks is a common wrong answer on this drill.
Utah does not fix an exact count of coupling-inspection questions on the combination exam, so verify any specific detail against the Utah Commercial Driver License Manual. Repeat this inspection sequence until it becomes second nature before you sit the real Utah CDL combination test in 2026.
Every question traces back to the Utah CDL Manual - skim the right-of-way and signs chapters before your retake.
