About the California Seat Belts & Child Restraints test
California's occupant safety rules start with a simple baseline: every person in the car has to be buckled, driver and passengers alike, and the driver can be ticketed for unbelted kids. Children under 8 ride in the back seat in a car seat or booster that fits them, and children under 2 stay rear-facing unless they have already passed the seat's height or weight limit. A child under 8 who has reached 4 feet 9 inches is the exception that gets to use a regular lap and shoulder belt.
The mistake this section keeps catching is graduating a kid too soon. Parents move a toddler forward-facing on a birthday instead of a growth chart, or promote a booster rider to the seat belt before the belt actually crosses the shoulder and hips correctly. Practice the age, height, and weight thresholds together so you are not guessing on test day.
Every question traces back to the California Driver's Manual - skim the right-of-way and signs chapters before your retake.
