About the California Sharing the Road test
Sharing the road is about the people around you who are easier to hurt and harder to see. California's 3-foot law means you leave at least three feet when you pass a cyclist, and if you cannot, you slow down and wait. Motorcycles get a full lane, so check their blind spots and never try to squeeze past one in the same lane. Around big trucks, remember that if you cannot see the driver's mirrors, the driver cannot see you.
School buses have their own hard rule: when the red lights are flashing, you stop and you do not pass, no matter which direction you are heading on an undivided road. The common mistakes are buzzing past cyclists with inches to spare and parking yourself in a truck's blind spot on the freeway. This practice is free with no signup, so you can get these habits right before the DMV tests them.
Every question traces back to the California Driver's Manual - skim the right-of-way and signs chapters before your retake.
