About the California Signaling & Communication test

Signaling seems simple until the test digs into the details. California wants you to signal at least 100 feet before a turn or a lane change, and you are expected to signal even when the road looks empty and no one seems to be around. A signal is a promise about what you are about to do, and communication goes beyond the blinker: a tap on the brakes, a light touch of the horn, and eye contact all tell other drivers what you intend.

This topic also covers hand signals for when a bulb burns out. Left arm straight out means a left turn, arm bent up means a right turn, and arm bent down means you are stopping or slowing. The usual mistakes are signaling too late to give anyone warning, not signaling at all, and forgetting hand signals exist. Run through it free with no signup.

Every question traces back to the California Driver's Manual - skim the right-of-way and signs chapters before your retake.
