About the California Traffic Signals & Road Markings test
Signals and pavement markings are a quiet language, and California drivers are expected to read it without thinking. Yellow lines separate traffic moving in opposite directions. A solid yellow on your side means no passing, a broken yellow means you may pass when the way is clear, and a double solid yellow means neither side crosses. A solid white line discourages lane changes, so treat it as a nudge to stay put.
Signals add another layer people misread under pressure. A flashing red works exactly like a stop sign, so stop, then go when it is safe. A flashing yellow means slow down and proceed with caution. A red arrow means no turn in that direction even when the round red light is dark. The two costliest mistakes are drifting across a double solid yellow and rolling through a flashing red.
